The game of Poker is a classic card game. It is unknown when it first emerged in the Western world, though some believe that it was born in Persia. The earliest version of Poker, however, probably emerged from a game called poque, which came from the French word for poker, poque. This game was played between two to four players with 20 cards, and players used only the aces. The game spread across Europe and soon made its way to the New World with French settlers.<\/p>\n
The rules of poker vary depending on the style of play. A player can fold by putting all of his or her cards face-down on the table. The goal of the game is to get the highest hand, or “hand” in poker. Poker hands are made up of five cards, either the five cards that the dealer dealt to a player or the five community cards. A high-card hand includes a kicker, the highest card remaining in the deck. If a player has a four-of-a-kind hand, the kicker would be the fifth card.<\/p>\n
Before a player can start the game, he or she must place an ante, which may vary from game to game. During the first round of betting, the player to the left of the big blind will have to “burn” one card from the top of the deck. In the subsequent round, the small blind will act first, which means that he or she will bet first.
